Olivia Jade Is Out Here Blaming Lori Loughlin for the Downfall of Her Career
Olivia Jade Is Out Here Blaming Lori Loughlin for the Downfall of Her Career Mehera Bonner Olivia Jade is super pissed at her parents Lori Loughlin and Mossimo Giannulli and reportedly blames them for the “downfall of her career.” Lori is currently in “seclusion” and only communicating with lawyers and family. Look, like, we all occasionally get pissed at our parents. But there’s pissed, and then there’s “you ruined my life by scamming my way into college pissed,” and that brings us to Olivia Jade. According to Us Weekly sources, Olivia is l-i-v-id with her parents Lori Loughlin and Mossimo Giannulli for allegedly partaking in the college admissions scandal -which involved them paying serious $ to get her into USC with a fake crew team membership. Like…girl can’t row! “Olivia blames her mom and dad for this scandal and for the downfall of her career,” the source tells Us , adding that Olivia “was initially trying to shrug off the scandal as something that would pass after a week and she could go back to her life.” LOL, nope. Olivia’s life has been totally upended-not only is she outta USC for obvious reasons, she’s lost business with Sephora , TRESemmé, and Estée Lauder. “Now that her endorsement deals have fallen through she is very upset with her parents,” the source explains. “Olivia didn’t even show interest in going to college, she wanted to take time and work on her beauty career, but her parents were the ones who wanted her to get an education.” UGH, MOM! Anyway, E! reports that the family is currently laying low, only in communication with their lawyers, and that Lori in particular is “in seclusion.” Kay. Follow Mehera on Instagram .
Jade Goody was humbled, humiliated and hounded but ended up saving thousands of lives after dying from cervical cancer ten years ago
Horoscopes WHY JADE MATTERED Jade Goody was humbled, humiliated and hounded but ended up saving thousands of lives after dying from cervical cancer ten years ago
Commemorating the 10 year anniversary since her death, Jade Goody’s legacy lives on in the hearts of those who she saved By Julie Burchill 21st March 2019, 10:45 pm Updated: 22nd March 2019, 9:31 am By Julie Burchill Invalid Date, IT is ten years today since Jade Goody died of cervical cancer at the shockingly young age of 27.
It feels odd writing that, because we’re used to commemorating the alleged Great And The Good, rather than the humble and the humiliated, as Jade was for a great deal of her short life. Peter Powell Limited 15 Between 2008 and 2009 around half a million extra cervical cancer screenings were attended; the period in which Jade was diagnosed and passed away
Four years after her death she was honoured with an entry in the Oxford Dictionary Of National Biography, which also includes Boudicca and Queen Victoria, herself sandwiched (and can’t you just hear her sweet, smutty laugh at that) between the 18th century physician Edmund Goodwyn and 17th century Puritan reformer Hugh Goodyear.
She would be the subject of study for both physicians and Puritans for much of her short life; even her conflicting name, “Jade” meaning “a disreputable woman” and Goody “a good or favoured person” seemed to mark her for some sort of paradoxical destiny.
I met her only once, in 2005, when I was making a documentary about reality TV, and found her absolutely charming — and I’ve met a lot of professionally charming people during my long career, most of them who’ve benefited from a private education and public relations.
We were expecting a temperamental brat; we got a bright, lively trouper. Getty – Contributor 15 Before her passing, Jade planned her children’s future and rose public awareness of cancer and its prevention
She turned up ten minutes early for the shoot in Manze’s pie and mash shop in South London, toting her angelic baby in a carrycot; apologising for bringing him, she explained that she didn’t have help with childcare and that he wouldn’t be any trouble. (He wasn’t.)
Even though she was a girl in her early twenties and I was a grown woman in my late forties, she proceeded to teach me a thing or two about being professional.
I developed very quickly a preposterous diva attitude that wouldn’t have disgraced Mariah Carey.
When I threw a hissy fit at being asked to walk along the Old Kent Road for the third time, Jade linked her arm through mine and said with a laugh: “Come on, love — one more time — it’s not what you could call hard labour, is it!” She was a joy to be around. E4 15 Jade’s clash with Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty sparked controversy on celebrity Big Brother in 2007 JADE was the antidote to the modern alibi that a rotten childhood will automatically make one a rotter
Born in 1981, she entered a world of Dickensian deprivation and dead-end drama, her father a Bill Sikes without the swagger and her mother a Nancy without the self-sacrificing decency. And what did that make Jade?
A cross between Oliver, looking for love, and the Artful Dodger, ducking and diving for survival.
Her doting dad was a petty criminal and drug addict who would eventually die from a heroin overdose in the lavatories of a KFC; “one of the classiest exits in history” Jade remarked with a dry wit her detractors would have denied her.
Her mother Jackiey Budden — whose sole moment of effort in her whole life obviously went into the unusual spelling of her Christian name — was a “clipper”, a woman who pretends to be a prostitute before de-camping with the mark’s money. Collect 15 Jade gives the camera a cheeky grin as a school girl
She found it amusing to photograph Jade with a cannabis joint in her mouth when she was five years old.
This was the year in which Budden lost the use of her left arm in a motorcycle accident, forcing her tiny daughter to take on the role of carer.
Jade was just one of Britain’s unsung legion of 700,000 child carers who live as modern-day domestic serfs and pay for it with disastrous results in their level of school attendance.
In the light of this, the subsequent mass mocking of her for her lack of general knowledge seems mean-minded, to say the least — but more of that later.
So she dutifully did the housework and cooking for an ill-tempered woman who rewarded this devotion by beating her: “She once hit me because I hadn’t fixed my Wendy house properly. I had to go to school that day and I was having trouble sitting down, so the teachers knew things weren’t right.” Handout 15 Jade and Jack Tweedy on their wedding day just months before she died
And at an age when other children’s greatest worry is whether to use bow-tie or tube pasta on their collages, Jade saved her mother’s life by dragging her drugged body from their burning flat, lit by candles as the electricity had been cut off again.
“I was just a kid, not even ten, and I had to use all my strength. It wasn’t her fault — you can’t blame her. She was in a bad way.”
When Jade was 13, things appeared to be looking up when Budden won £13,000 on the Lottery.
Imagine the lovely things you might feel moved to buy the daughter who had been your carer since she was tiny! But of course, Budden blew it all on drugs. PA:Press Association 15 The couple wed soon after Jade was diagnosed with cervical cancer
Just the simple act of getting a job as a dental nurse, rather than slump into the slow-mo, dead-end quicksand of drugs as those closest to her had, showed what Jade was made of.
Still, staring into people’s mouths for a living for a pretty girl of 20, up to her ears in debt, surely there was more to life? It came along in 2002, in the shape of Big Brother, the ground-breaking reality TV show which was in its third year.
In the halcyon hinterland of Big Brother, humility and honesty were rewarded by housemates and voting public alike and snobbishness and sneakiness were punished.
I’ll openly state my bias here and admit I do believe that people who hate reality television hate life itself generally, and the working class in particular. In Jade, these sad-sacks found their El Dorado. Handout 15 The celebration was filmed for a programme on Living TV; the couple with Jade’s children Bobby and Freddy
As ever, she was an innocent among villains: “It was never about trying to find fame — it was just that I could not take my life any more.
“It was nice to think, ‘I don’t have to worry about anyone’ . . . I thought it was going to be a hotel where I could be a kid. It was like a holiday camp and I was acting like a child.”
Of course, the know-alls of the media saw her as anything but — suddenly it seemed as though the witch trials were back, and the focus of them was one silly, excitable, 20-year-old girl.
Jade was a convenient hate object in an age when political correctness prevents us from insulting anyone but the white working class. PA:Press Association 15 The CBB star was previously in a relationship with Jeff Brazier who is the father of both her children
Over the years, I’ve observed that the use of the c-word — “chav” — indicates a socially insecure snob who hasn’t got half as far in life as they thought they would and who isn’t having half as much sex as they dreamed they would.
The killjoys completely overlooked the way Jade added to the gaiety of the nation with the adorable malapropisms which were, as I’ve mentioned, undeserving of contempt considering her indentured childhood.
“Where is East Angular, is it abroad?” “A ferret is a bird.” “Sherlock Holmes invented toilets.” “I’m not being tictactical.” “They were trying to use me as an escape goat.” ONE thing she said cut to the quick and to the chase: “I am intelligent but I can’t speak or spell” PA/PA Photos 15 Jade was determined that her kids wouldn’t have a childhood of deprivation like she had experienced
Yet this amiable girl was dubbed “the most hated woman in Britain”, which says more about the mental condition of the haters than the hated.
But the public took to her; she, in turn, took her chance at a better life and ran with it.
Though finishing only fourth in Big Brother, she quickly became wealthy, first from magazine interviews and then from five fitness DVDs, a best- selling autobiography and a perfume somewhat unwisely called “Shh . . . ” which became Superdrug’s third most popular fragrance after those of established fragrance floggers Kylie Minogue and Victoria Beckham. Her fortune was estimated to be around £8million.
Surviving an upbringing of Hogarthian horror and monstered by privileged no-marks as the thickest woman in Britain, success must have smelled as sweet as the bergamot, cassis, pink pepper, cinnamon, cumin, freesia, jasmine rose, iris, sandalwood, patchouli, vanilla, amber moss and musk which constituted her scent. Rex Features Jade teamed up with showbiz starlets Jo O’Meara and Danielle Lloyd in CBB
But someone always has to spoil it, and that person is usually oneself.
There was no need for Jade to enter the Celebrity Big Brother house in 2007, five years after her first innings; she was a woman of substance and property.
It’s likely that the tag-on presence of her mother, a parasite she was always protective of, might have had something to do with it.
But after the frightful old fraud was quickly evicted, Jade teamed up with the showbiz starlets Jo O’Meara and Danielle Lloyd and these three pretty girls were transformed into a cosmetically enhanced coven before our very eyes. Collect Mum Jackiey poses with five-day-old daughter Jade in 1981
Their victim was fellow housemate and Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty.
Jade told Shilpa “you’re not a f***ing princess here” and advised her that “you need a day in the slums” and Shilpa told Jade that she would benefit from “etiquette classes”.
The controversy generated more than 300 newspaper articles in Britain; India’s junior minister for external affairs warned that his government would take “appropriate measures” while their trade minister feared a “diplomatic crisis”.
The winner, Miss Shetty, was more temperate in her acceptance speech: “Things happen, people make mistakes and we all learn from them. Collect Andrew Goody with his newborn daughter
“But I can say one thing for sure — Jade didn’t mean to be racist.”
Diplomatic crises were avoided, Jade apologised a lot, donating her CBB fee to charity.
But you couldn’t keep her down. Though she couldn’t spell “chutzpah”, she was soon back with a follow-up fragrance called Controversial and a beauty salon in Essex.
In 2008 she was reunited with Shilpa Shetty when she joined the Indian version of Big Brother, called Bigg Boss.
Then, on the second day, she was called to the Diary Room to be told that she had cervical cancer. Enterprise News and Pictures 15 Jade tried to cover her modesty whilst stripping in a Big Brother drinking game in 2002
Rather than giving up, the diagnosis made her double-down on her efforts to make money; not for herself, but for her two sons, who she was determined would never know the childhood deprivation she had. SHE was both logical and lucky in love, finding the extraordinary young man Jeff Brazier as the father of her children — imagine a sexy Essex Gandhi, if you can
Her husband Jack Tweedy was easy on the eye and little more. But she was dying by then anyway and banked a reported £3million to be put into trust for her sons by selling the rights to her wedding day alone.
Her second and final autobiography in 2008 was Catch A Falling Star. In February 2009 she was told that her cancer was terminal. She died on March 22, 2009. Getty Images – Getty 15 Jade and Jack two years before she was diagnosed with cancer
Throughout her decline she was trolled mercilessly, by professionals and by enthusiastic amateurs, by halfwits and the highly educated.
It was class loathing — newly revivified by the unacceptability of racial hatred — in its purest, vilest form, curtain-twitching middle-class outrage at this scullery-maid who had dared not to know her place.
As I wrote at the time: “Will it finally stop when Jade Goody stops breathing, do you think? When she’s pronounced dead? When we see her crying children placing flowers on their dead mother’s grave?
“No. Sad as it seems, sad for the haters, even more than the hated — who will by then be in a place where they can no longer touch her — the rivers of loathing which pour down upon the broken body of this young, naive, defenceless young mother, born into massive poverty and underprivilege, with everything stacked against her, seem unlikely to end with her death.” Rex Features 15 Jade discovered she had cervical cancer whilst on the Indian version of Big Brother
It didn’t. But though living well is reasonable revenge, having your death mean something more than the sorrow of your loved ones is an achievement indeed, and one that none of her trolls will ever have.
About half a million extra cervical screening attendances occurred in England between mid-2008 and mid-2009, the period during which Jade was diagnosed and died. At its peak, in March 2009, attendance was 70 per cent higher than expected. Professor Julietta Patnick, director of the NHS cancer screening programmes, said: “Jade’s tragic diagnosis and death played a huge role in raising awareness of cervical cancer.”
As the ODNB said: “She died with dignity, planning for the future of her children, and contributed to public awareness of cancer and its prevention. In the phrase of the age, she was a celebrity for being a celebrity, but in the end, her life had meaning.”

When Is Mercury Retrograde 2019 Over? Here’s When The Confusion Will Finally End
By Roya Backlund 3 hours ago
How have the last few weeks been treating you? I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say that they’ve probably been pretty weird, am I right? After all, Mercury has been retrograde since Mar. 5, and this has definitely been one of the strangest and most affecting Mercury retrogrades I’ve experienced in a long time. It’s enough to make even the most astrology-challenged person Google: When is Mercury retrograde 2019 over? Trust me, I’m in the same exact boat as you are. There’s no shame in blaming the cosmos for all your problems.
All jokes aside, this is a highly emotional and sensitive Mercury retrograde for a number of reasons. First of all, it’s taking place in Pisces, which is a deeply spiritual, intuitive, artistic, and imaginative zodiac sign. Because Mercury is the planet of communication and cognitive function, it prefers facts over fiction. Try explaining facts over fiction to Pisces and it’ll just write even more fiction. The truth is, Mercury and Pisces don’t get along very well. Pisces prefers to feel things intuitively, live in the beauty of its own world, and fall in love. Mercury, on the other hand, wants to analyze details, focus on reality, and think things through.
Let’s put it this way: Mercury is in detriment when it’s in Pisces. This planet is not working the way it prefers to. Add that with a dose of Mercury retrograde and you’ve got a very strange few weeks, indeed. Mercury Stations Direct In Pisces On Mar. 28, 2019 Giphy
When Mercury stations direct after a strange and difficult retrograde, it feels like a breath of fresh air. For this one in particular, the affect will leave you with a renewed sense of self and a rejuvenated connection with your spirit. I know I just did a lot of talking about how Mercury in Pisces is an off-kilter time in and of itself, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have something incredibly important to teach you. While Mercury can leave you stuck in your own head, Pisces wants you to reach out and feel the emotional vibrations that cannot be easily simplified by thought. Sometimes you need a reminder that logic isn’t the answer to all things.
Pisces is all about selflessness, spirituality, connection, romance, and art. For the past few weeks, you’ve been grappling with issues pertaining to these subjects. You may have been dealing with problems brought back from the past or conflicted about your overall relationship with such things. This retrograde arrived to help you face these blocks head on. Mercury Leaves The Post-Retrograde Shadow On Apr. 16, 2019 Giphy
However, just because Mercury technically stationed direct does not mean that you’re completely in the clear of the retrograde madness. Have you ever heard of Mercury’s post-retrograde shadow? It essentially defines the time period in which Mercury spends returning back to the same position it was in when it first entered retrograde. As you can imagine, Mercury is still feeling confused during that time. Even though this Mercury retrograde technically ends on Mar. 28, you’ll probably still feel some of its bewildering effects all the way up until Apr. 16, just one day before it enters Aries.
The post-shadow period of Mercury retrograde entails coming to a conclusion about the experience. You’re coming to terms with the results of the situations you became entangled with. What could you have done differently? How can you learn from the past few weeks? You’ll likely continue to feel some of the confusion, even though it’s now ebbing away. However, you’re able to deal with your habits and mistakes now that you’ve garnered more wisdom.

Jeff Bezos’ $140 billion divorce: What you need to know – CNET
Jeff and MacKenzie Bezos in 2017, at the Amazon Studios Golden Globes Party in Beverly Hills, California.
Jerritt Clark/Getty Images Jeff Bezos ‘ divorce announcement in January started with a seemingly heartfelt and straightforward tweet from the couple and soon after spiraled into allegations of blackmail over nude photos and a private investigation into leaked texts.
Apparently this is what it looks like when the world’s richest person gets divorced.
The split has transformed Bezos’ public persona from a privacy-seeking tech geek to a supermarket tabloid regular, with gossip pages dishing on the couple’s massive fortune of roughly $140 billion and on Bezos’ steamy texts to his new girlfriend.
Beyond the world of TMZ and Page Six, Jeff and MacKenzie Bezos’ divorce could have a big impact on Amazon’s ownership and create new challenges for the company. And though it’s unlikely, that turbulence could even harm consumers by slowing Amazon’s rapid pace of growth and innovation.
The divorce is expected to result in one of the most notable settlements in history — and likely the biggest.
“Jeff remains very much focused on and engaged in Amazon,” company spokesman Drew Herdener said in January.
Here’s what you need to know about the divorce and what effects it may have.
The split Jeff and MacKenzie Bezos jointly announced their divorce via Twitter on Jan. 9, saying they decided to split “after a long period of loving exploration and trial separation.” The message says they plan to remain friends. The couple married 25 years ago, the year before Bezos founded Amazon.
— Jeff Bezos (@JeffBezos) January 9, 2019 What wasn’t mentioned in that tweet was that the National Enquirer tabloid had reached out to Bezos two days earlier to ask him for comment on a story it planned to run about Bezos and his girlfriend, Lauren Sanchez, The Wall Street Journal reported this week.
Hours after the divorce announcement, the Enquirer reported that Bezos has been dating Sanchez, the wife of WME talent agent Patrick Whitesell. It also published a series of texts Bezos sent Sanchez, including: “I love you, alive girl. I will show you with my body, and my lips and my eyes, very soon.” Sanchez and Whitesell are separated, according to several news reports.
Michael Sanchez, Lauren’s brother and a longtime source for the Enquirer, leaked those texts to the publication, according to reports by both the Journal and the Daily Beast . He hasn’t admitted that he was the Enquirer’s source.
Jeff Bezos is Amazon’s founder, CEO, chairman and top shareholder. MacKenzie Bezos is a novelist who helped Amazon grow during its early years but hasn’t been significantly involved in the company since and has a much lower profile than her husband. The couple has four children.
Lauren Sanchez is a former TV reporter who founded an aerial film production company called Black Ops Aviation . She didn’t respond to a request for comment.
The Medium post Things got much stranger a month later when Bezos published a lengthy Medium post alleging an apparent blackmail plot by the Enquirer. He said the publication was threatening to release nude photos of him unless he ended a private investigation into how the tabloid got a hold of his text messages to Sanchez. He said the publication also called for him to say publicly he found no proof that the Enquirer’s reporting was politically motivated; President Donald Trump has had an ongoing feud with Bezos and has close connections to the Enquirer.
“Rather than capitulate to extortion and blackmail, I’ve decided to publish exactly what they sent me, despite the personal cost and embarrassment they threaten,” Bezos said in the post.
Bezos was still going through an increasingly messy and public divorce, but his revelation of the Enquirer’s apparent extortion won the billionaire a wave of positive coverage.
American Media Inc., the Enquirer’s publisher, said it would investigate Bezos’ claims.
What’s the president’s take? Yes, even Trump has a take on this divorce. Trump has often showed his disdain for Jeff Bezos, mostly because Bezos’ Washington Post has reported many unflattering things about the commander-in-chief.
So sorry to hear the news about Jeff Bozo being taken down by a competitor whose reporting, I understand, is far more accurate than the reporting in his lobbyist newspaper, the Amazon Washington Post. Hopefully the paper will soon be placed in better & more responsible hands!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 14, 2019 The president is known for taking digs at his enemies, so it should come as no surprise that he’s mocked Bezos amid the divorce. In one tweet in January, Trump called him “Jeff Bozo.” When asked about the Bezos divorce, Trump, who’s been divorced twice, said : “I wish him luck. It’s going to be a beauty.”
Trump also enjoyed a victory lap after the Enquirer broke news of Bezos’ extramarital relationship. The president is close to the tabloid’s publisher and has reportedly used the tabloid to suppress allegations of his own affair.
Michael Sanchez, a Hollywood talent manager, is also connected to both the Enquirer and conservative activists. These relationships and Trump’s comments on the divorce have made plenty of people wonder whether the Enquirer reporting was an effort to go after Bezos to benefit Trump.
Bezos and Amazon routinely avoid responding to Trump’s taunts. Onlookers should expect that posture to continue.
The fortune Nearly all of Bezos’ wealth comes from his 16 percent ownership in Amazon, one of the world’s most valuable publicly traded companies, valued at about $860 billion. Bezos personally owns The Washington Post, which he purchased for $250 million in 2013. The couple’s properties include two homes in Beverly Hills; two homes in Medina, Washington; the largest home in Washington, DC; and a Texas ranch, according to the Journal.
Jeff Bezos is the richest person on Earth… for now 1:12 Bezos also owns Blue Origin, a rocket and space travel company he founded in 2000. He invests about $1 billion of his Amazon stock every year in developing the startup. Through Bezos Expeditions , he owns stakes in companies including Airbnb, Uber, Nextdoor and Twitter.
After being a minor player in the charity world for most of his career, Bezos in September unveiled the Day One charitable fund , with an initial investment of $2 billion to aid nonprofits focused on homelessness and to create a new network of preschools in low-income communities.
What could happen next for Amazon? At this early point, it’s hard to say what may change for Amazon’s ownership. TMZ reported that the couple has no prenuptial agreement, which means the world’s biggest individual fortune may be split and Jeff Bezos may lose direct control of half his Amazon stake . That could result in MacKenzie Bezos pushing for changes at the company or requesting a seat on Amazon’s board, but either scenario is speculative since it’s still unclear how the divorce will shake out.
Though the ownership questions remain up in the air, corporate governance experts say the divorce is sure to add uncertainty for Amazon. It appears to have already created a distraction for Bezos.
“These are hard jobs even in the best of circumstances, then you add other things in there,” David Larcker, director of the Corporate Governance Research Initiative at Stanford’s business school, said in January. “Do you have the bandwidth to deal with it? Do you have your eye on the ball?”
Bezos at the grand opening of the Amazon Spheres office space/greenhouse in Seattle last January. His company is now working on constructing two new major, 25,000-employee campuses on the East Coast.
Jason Redmond/Getty Images Jill Fisch, a professor of business law at the University of Pennsylvania, said: “How strong Amazon is as a company will determine how big an impact this has.”
Larcker and Fisch likened the Bezos divorce to Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s emotional issues last year and Apple co-founder Steve Jobs ‘ illness and death in 2011. In both cases, the impact on consumers and the products they bought from Tesla and Apple was muted. Larcker said he expects the same outcome in Amazon’s case, too, though he cautioned that a more distracted Jeff Bezos could harm long-term decisions and cause Amazon to miss out on potential acquisitions.
To avoid those kinds of issues, Larcker said, Amazon will have to rely on its bench strength of longtime Amazon executives, who include worldwide consumer business CEO Jeff Wilke, Amazon Web Services CEO Andy Jassy and senior vice president Jeffrey Blackburn. Amazon now employs about 600,000 people worldwide, meaning it isn’t run by any one person, no matter how important, and can continue to move on it own momentum at least for the short term, he added.
Has there been any impact on Amazon so far? There have been scores of tabloid headlines, and the publishing of embarrassing texts from Jeff Bezos punctures Amazon’s typical air of secrecy. The blackmail allegations, too, likely distracted the company from its usual messaging about new products and services. Beyond that, there’s been no clear dustup related to Amazon as a company, with its stock remaining stable since the divorce announcement.
On Feb. 15, a week after Bezos’ Medium post hit, Amazon said it scraped its plans to build a major, 25,000-employee campus in New York City. However, that decision has been widely attributed to pushback from local politicians and activists, not the divorce drama.
Even with half his fortune, Bezos is likely to remain just as engaged in and motivated about Amazon’s growth, since his identity is so closely intertwined with the company, and he’d still be worth a staggering $70 billion, Larcker said.
More stories on the Bezos divorce Why Jeff Bezos’ Divorce Should Worry Amazon Investors (New York Times) What the break-up of the world’s richest couple means for Amazon (Economist) Jeff Bezos goes from geek to National Enquirer gossip fodder Amazon’s Jeff Bezos says National Enquirer is blackmailing him with nude photos There’s no lack of challenges for Bezos. He’s just starting the development of another major 25,000-employee office in Arlington, Virginia (yes, there were going to be two). His company is stretching itself into smart-home gadgets like the popular Alexa-powered Echo speakers , as well as Hollywood, health care, groceries, robotics and new international markets. Plus, competition in Amazon’s main business, online retail, continues to simmer as Walmart , Target and other traditional retailers fight to catch up.
There isn’t a lot of room for error for Bezos and Amazon. If this team stops executing as well as it has for the past few years, lots of competitors could jump ahead.
Has a similar CEO divorce happened before? Yes, though the numbers don’t get any bigger.
Wynn Resorts founders Steve and Elaine Wynn divorced in 2010 and split their 18 percent stake in the casino company, which was then valued at about $1.5 billion. The breakup was amicable, but things fell apart soon after, with Elaine Wynn suing to regain voting control of her shares and eventually becoming the largest shareholder when Steve Wynn resigned amid sexual misconduct allegations.
Rupert and Anna Murdoch’s marriage of 32 years ended in 1999, resulting in Anna reportedly receiving $1.7 billion in the settlement.
There are plenty of other instances of super rich divorce settlements, too, but the Bezos split is expected to result in the biggest settlement in history, with MacKenzie Bezos becoming the wealthiest woman in the world.
